Project Profile

Project: Nickel-Cobalt Refinery

Location: Australia

Project Scope:  INGENII’s engineers performed all structural engineering for the design of the steel framing and foundations of this four-story, 1,300 square meter process unit. Process equipment included three crystallizer vapor bodies and three vertical heaters.  A three-dimensional RISA-3D computer model of the structure was utilized to evaluate differential thermal loading that resulted between the support levels for the vapor bodies and heaters.  Structural design criteria included dynamic forces from sloshing fluids equivalent to 20% of the equipment operating weight.

Steel weight for the structure totaled over 120 metric tons (135 tons US).  All engineering was performed according to local Australian design standards using locally available steel shapes.
