Mr.Floody has over 20 years
of experience in the structural analysis and design of commercial,
industrial, and institutional structures.
Mr. Floody has extensive
design experience with industrial, commercial, and utility projects. In
addition to performing the layout and design of the steel superstructures and
concrete foundations, he has analyzed and designed reinforced masonry and
precast concrete tilt-up structures for industrial, institutional, and commercial
projects. He also has extensive experience in the design of structural
modifications for plant upgrade and expansion projects, including the design
of structural steel and aluminum, reinforced concrete slabs, foundations, and
subgrade structures. Mr.Floody's experience also includes the design of the
boiler, turbine, and control buildings, and concrete turbine generator
foundation for a 707 MW coal-fired power generating station.
Mr. Floody is responsible for assuring the technical quality
of project deliverables; development of project structural design criteria,
structural designs and calculations; supervision of structural engineers; and
verifying that designs comply with specified codes, project design criteria,
and specific client procedures and policies.

Mr.Floody possesses extensive experience in the examination and assessment of commercial and
industrial structures, as well as structures associated with fossil-fueled generating stations.
He has performed field examinations of concrete chimneys, steel stacks, electrostatic
precipitators, flue gas ductwork, crane girders, circulating water piping, storage silos,
material handling structures, structural steel framing and masonry structures in addition to
bridges and pavement. He has also performed examinations and assessments of structural
problems associated with commercial structures (foundation settlement, cracked masonry walls,
roof failures, etc.).

Structural Engineer of Record for the renovation of a 300 seat theater. Engineered a 60 foot vertical
truss over the stage to allow removal of existing interior columns to improve theater lines of
sight. Project also included: deign of new retaining walls necessary for lowering the stage level
four feet; a new two-story 2500 square foot entrance vestibule; and new steel beams to support forty
feet of masonry to allow removal of existing masonry between the second floor and grade floor levels.

development of a conceptual design for a 1300 square foot flammable material storage building. Mr.
Floody evaluated manufacturing operations and assisted in developing requirements for storage,
dispensing and transport of flammable flavor additives.

for manufacturing, warehousing and office facility. Coordinated the design of the load bearing
precast tilt-up walls and developed an innovative approach to handling differential thermal expansion

and modifications to infra-structure roadways for ingress and egress.

from clean room HVAC equipment.

be assembled in the United States and shipped to Argentina. The design of towers included analysis for
seismic loads (UBC Zone 3).
Occidental Chemical Corporation, Castle Hayne, North Carolina
Project manager/engineer-in-charge, supervised all civil, structural, and architectural design. Met with
the client to develop structural and architectural system requirements to resist 120-mile-per-hour
hurricane force winds for a 20,000 square foot Salt Cake Purification facility with twin 90-foot tall
material silos.
Westvaco Corporation; Charleston, South Carolina
Supervised the design of 120 tons of structural steel framing for a combined stripper, scrubber, and
incinerator system. The project required the structural system to be designed for both seismic and coastal
hurricane wind forces.
Scott Paper Company
Designed structural steel framing for this recycle water process system, including a 110-long pipe bridge
and 40-high vessel towers. The structural system included 130 tons of steel and was designed for coastal
hurricane wind forces.

Designed the steel framing for a recycle water evaporator system.

Structural engineer for the design of a wastewater tank truck unloading facility. The
reinforced concrete structure was constructed atop an earthen embankment that was supported by a
15'-tall retaining wall. The wall was designed to withstand the lateral surcharge resulting from
60-ton tank trucks which were parked on the unloading area.
Various Plant Improvement Projects
Responsible for the following:
- Miscellaneous structural steel and foundation modifications over a five-year period.
- Design of all site work (grading/storm water runoff drainage) modifications and subgrade trenches
for routing utilities to the new Fire House.
- Coordinating the site development work for two maintenance buildings, including subgrade routing
and tie-ins of all utilities, site grading, storm water runoff, and roadwork.
Coker Change House/Sulfur Operator Shelter
Project manager for two new operator facilities (1,300 and 800 square-feet respectively).
Riverfront Projects Boathouse
Project manager for the following riverfront projects at Mobil's Joliet Refinery: Boathouse Extension - extended
existing boathouse 15’ into the Des Plaines River. Boat Storage Building and Boat Ramp - new 1,400-square-foot
storage building, plus a 60’ boat ramp into the Des Plaines River.
Sulfur Stack
Performed a finite element analysis and designed reinforcing for a 250’‑tall, 10”‑diameter sulfur
incinerator stack suffering from circumferential weld cracking.
Maintenance Shops and Offices; Joliet, Illinois
Responsible for supervising all structural and architectural design work for three 6,200-square-foot maintenance
buildings. Two-story stand-alone masonry construction office and locker room facilities of 1,700 square
feet each were located within each metal building structure.
Transportation Building
Responsible for coordination of the site development work for two maintenance buildings, including subgrade
routing and tie-ins of all utilities, site grading, storm water runoff, and roadwork.

new enclosure for an acid-caustic water treatment area.
Crawford Station, Unit 13
Supervised preparation of demolition and reroofing bid packages for seven roofs totaling 50,000 square
feet.
Project manager, responsible for the supervision and coordination of the structural,
architectural, mechanical, and electrical aspects of a 2,200-square-foot office expansion.
Responsible for the structural and architectural design of a 1,300-square-foot, two-room
hazardous material storage facility. Unique design requirements included a four-hour masonry fire wall
and concrete panel roof to separate flammable and caustic components.
Joliet Station; Work Planning Office
Project manager for a 1,200-square-foot office expansion inside the existing turbine bay. Responsibilities
included coordination of all structural, architectural, mechanical, and electrical design activities.
Responsible for the design of masonry, steel, and concrete for the Work Planning Office Building.
State Line Station, Units 1 and 2
Supervised preparation of demolition and reroofing packages for Units 1 and 2 boiler room roofs, totaling 35,000
quare feet.
